The Eppaner alta via starts with a gentle climb, then followed by a just as gentle downhill incline on a gravel path to an average of 1,000 m altitude. The tour offers an impressive view across Bozen, the South Tyrolean Unterland and the Dolomites. After starting in Kaltern, continue on the bike path towards Appiano/Eppan, to then cross Appiano on an at first really steep gravel path uphill towards Matschatsch. Follow the Mendelstraße a bit to the right, to then take a turn into the Michealer Kehre (turn N° 6) and back on a forest path. This forest path starts fairly even, but then becomes steeper and leads to the Furglau gorge, a steep furrow which stretches between Penegal and Gantkofel towards Appiano. After a short section where you’ll have to push the bike, you’ll reach the gorge, which you can ‘escape’ on a short but very steep gravel path.
The Eppan alta via continues gently uphill to around 1,050 m altitude. After a gentle downhill gravel path you’ll reach the optical highlight of the tour - the Buchwald guesthouse with its sensational view across Bozen. Continue on a gravel path to Perdonig. Return on asphalt and gravel paths crisscrossing the forest below the alta via, biking to the exit of the Furglau gorge, coasting guesthouses and across the village of Eppan once again on the bike path to Kaltern.
