Peace Path

Start: piazza Rottenburg/Rottenburger Platz
Finish: Ruins of St. Peter Church in Castelvecchio/Altenburg
Duration: around 3 hours (excl. breaks at local eateries)
Elevation gain: around 410 m

The Peace Path (german Friedensweg) in Kaltern was built between 1995 and 2000, the brainchild of Georg Reider. It starts in S. Antonio/St. Anton (sports facilities) and winds its way across the natural beauties of the Kaltern Valley, or the wilderness of the Rastenbach gorge towards St. Peter in Castelvecchio/Altenburg.
Hikers and pilgrims can stop at five different locations for some peaceful reflection. These spots all feature a different quality or trait, for want of a better word. These are: Measure, Intelligence, Fairness, Belief and Hope. They were staged by artists and adapted to their natural surroundings. The sixth spot (Courage) is the gorge Rastenbach. The seventh is ‘Love’, represented by the church ruins of St. Peter in Castelvecchio, probably the oldest church ruin in South Tyrol.
We recommend you wear sturdy shoes for the hike. Sure footing is a must on the hike.
