Kaltern is an ideal point of departure for a wide variety of biking tours. In one direction, there’s the Etschtal Adige valley, which reaches from the towns of Meran and Salurn and runs far south to the city of Trent and Lake Garda, offering a relaxing bike tour for the entire family. Just off the cycling trail along the Etsch River, you also find many farming and forest paths that are open for your adventures.
Another option, of course, is up into the mountains. Mountain bikers find ideal conditions here for the perfect start of the biking season. Already in March, you can hit the challenging trails in Mitterberg or those just under the ridge of the Mendel mountain range.
 
Bike trail Mitterberg
The bike trail Mitterberg leads you through vineyards and fruit orchards, past Lake Kalterer See, along the Etsch-Radweg (Etsch River bike trail) to the city of Bozen and back to Eppan. Difficulty: easy travel time: 3.5 hours - distance: 40 km - altitude variance: 200 m.
 
Mountain bike tour St. Anton/Mendel
The mountain bike tour St. Anton/Mendel runs over forest paths from the woods in Altenburg to an elevation just under the crest of the Mendel mountain range. Difficulty: moderate-time: 1.5 hours - distance: 10 km - altitude variance: 270 m
 
Racing bike course Mendel - Nonsberg
The racing bike course begins on the paved road leading up to the Mendel Pass, 1.363 m, to Ronzone, Romeno, Cles, then around the dam S. Giustina and continues to Mezzolombardo, through Roverè della Luna and along the South Tyrolean Wine Road back to Kaltern. Traveling time: 4 hours - distance: 80 km
